Portfolio Elements - Winter 2018

Portfolio Elements
For ages 11 and up. Traditional drawing is emphasized as a basis for all work, even comic book, fantasy or anime. It requires a lot of rendering from direct observation; a more difficult task and therefore a big requirement of most high school and college level portfolios. Self-portraits, figure drawings, object studies and still life drawings are commonly requested. Projects covered will include CCPS high school portfolio requirements for those on the ARTS track upon entering High School. This class is open to students of all levels; portfolio planning is optional.

Intro to Peep Art/Junk Sculpture - Starts January 25

For ages 10 - adult. Every year the Carroll Arts Center in Westminster hosts the PEEPshow, which is a display of marshmallow covered dioramas, graphic arts, oversized characters and mosaics created and inspired by Peeps®, attracting thousands of visitors each year!  Registration for 2018 starts Feb. 1. If you are interested in a 3-part workshop to help you get started early this year, this is for you! Some materials will be provided.
Part 1 – Designing, and planning materials.
Part 2 – Building the armature.
Part 3 – How to peep your peeps.

Oil Painting - Beginner to Intermediate - Spring 2018

Starts March 1

For adults and ages 15 and up. Learn basic skills and techniques for traditional oil painting. This class will work on composition, color mixing, using different mediums, glazing and blending, painting from photos, and learn about different materials. Painting is rewarding and fun when you learn the techniques and how to methods.

Play on Theatre - Spring 2018

Play on Theatre, for ages 10 and up
For ages 10 and up. This program will provide the foundations for a fun and exciting theatre presentation. For our 2nd installment, the young actors will perform in “The Great American Talent Show”. From renowned playwright Joseph Robinette, here’s a great parody of American Idol, America’s Got Talent, and all TV talent shows.  It’s the final night of the yearlong TV talent show to end all talent shows.  Our finalists anxiously await their final shot at fame and fortune.  Three self-important judges — including the token brutally honest Brit character — cajole or praise each contestant in hilarious ways.  Who will win the tournament of champions?  
This class will stretch students and delight even those who are a bit shy. Roles will be assigned after the first class.

Comics Unleashed - Spring 2018

Comics Unleashed
For ages 8 – 10. Explore comic book design in this exciting class. Create a mini comic from start to finish. Learn basic drawing techniques, character design, page composition, layout, penciling, inking and lettering. Explore a variety of genres of comics including superhero, Manga, Indie and graphic novels. At the end of the class, the finished comics will be posted online.

Competitive Multiple Media - Spring 2018

Starts April 9
Competitive Multiple Media, For ages 10 -17. Students will learn to illustrate in a variety of mediums. Creative projects will be interspersed with technique study to develop many areas of expression.  All students will be competing in 2 additional 2-hour sessions to demonstrate the skills they’ve learned in the program.

Students will compete in the Regional Competition on Sat., May 19 (tentatively) 10AM-2PM. Location TBD. All material are included.

Guided Artistic Directions in the Studio
For adults and advanced students ages 15 and up. Students will develop their personal artistic direction and create a series of works using drawing, painting, or mixed media techniques. Instructor John Kachik will customize, design, and provide demonstrations and direction to meet class needs and interests. Individual and group critiques and discussions will help students develop their work to more professional. Open to all levels. Bring the materials that support your medium of choice.

Introduction to Zentangle - Spring 2018

For adults and ages 12 and up.
This introduction to the Zentangle® Method is an easy to learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. The process of creating a Zentangle® is a form of artistic meditation as one becomes completely engrossed in making each pattern, deliberately focusing on every stroke. It increases focus, promotes mindfulness and provides artistic satisfaction. The creativity options and pattern combinations are endless. In this hands on class, we will explore tangle patterns and shading, creating high quality take home pieces. No prior artistic experience is necessary. Even those who believe they cannot draw, can learn to Zentangle® and can create stunning original art! Materials are included.

Mixed Media Explosion - Winter 2018

Mixed Media Explosion , for ages 6 – 10.
Mixed media is a course for students to explore of variety of mediums through collage, drawing, painting, assemblage, cutting and pasting. We will communicate in visual and design terms as well as learn to interpret different kinds of lines, shapes, colors, and proportions. PIE3 Robotics Teams 2017/18 - FTC

Welcome to the PIE3 Robotics Team Registration Site.

FIRST Tech Challenge is open to students who are 11-18 years old by January.

You must have a participation code to signup, indicating that you have been accepted onto a team.

Teams are formed in the community as coaches (2 or more per team) volunteer and determine meeting times and location BEFORE signing up members. Team size varies and is not limited, but space and coach availability will constrain membership. Organizational meeting for 2017-2018 is Aug 16th at 6:30 at the Eldersburg Library.

After Aug 16th or with any other questions, email signup.pie3@gmail.com to inquire about possible team openings or to inquire about coaching a new team. Coach training is available; no experience is required.

Team formation for this season ends November 15th. Registration will remain open for confirmed team members. Note that the competition season runs Dec-Feb.

Welcome to the PIE3 Robotics Team Registration Site.

FIRST LEGO League Junior is open to students who are 6-9 years old by January.

This camp will include engineering challenges like egg drop and bridge building, guest speakers, a field trip and, of course, Lego robots and SuGo. GIRLS ONLY! June 18-22, 1 – 4 pm
Intro to Robotics with LEGOS (ages 8-12)
Our most popular session, now updated. This session was formerly called “LEGO Fun”, and will still include an introduction to Lego EV3 programming for Mindstorms and SuGo games, a friendly and fun competition. Some additional robotics activities and engineering challenges are also part of the fun. On the final day, teams showcase their robots and skills. No experience is needed, but those familiar with the EV3 or returning students can pursue advanced topics. Students interested in fall LEGO robotics competitions will learn about the program, and receive invitations to team formation meetings.

This session is intended for the youngest robotics enthusiasts, and eager builders. Minimum age is 6 by January 1, and completion of 1st grade is recommended.

NEW: Introduction to Scratch Programming (ages 8-12)
Join the club, and start coding! This introductory session will provide a basis and get kids started on a simple and easy-to-learn platform that can lead to much more. Based on demand, follow on sessions may be planned for the fall. July 9-13, 1 pm – 4 pm

FIRST Robotics Competition is open to students who are 14-18 years old by January, and junior members who are 13 in January. PIE3 currently sponsors the Robo-Lions, FRC Team 2199. The team meets in the Sykesville area at least weekly. The team builds a competitive robot each winter, running summer sessions in robotics and engineering in the summer, training, competing and sharing their STEM experiences throughout the community all year.
Team members learn about and participate in the team in many ways, and may join through the year. Volunteer mentors are also welcome in any of the following areas:
-Electronics and electrical engineering
-Mechanical systems and system integration
-Public relations, including marketing, graphic design and social media
-Business planning and fundraising
-Computer Aided Design (CAD)
-Programming in Java
-Shop safety, quality engineering and product reliability

There is an initiation fee of $50 for students. This includes an invitation to visit with the current team or attend a workshop to learn about the program. Full membership will require additional fundraising and/or contributions to cover team registrations, materials, and travel.

Season will run on Sunday mornings March 18 – May 13. 8 weeks - 1 week of practices – 7 weeks of games. (any make up games will be on week nights)

We will be holding free pitching instruction clinics in January & February 2018 for Grades 3-4, 5-7 and 8-12 Divisions. All pitchers or potential pitchers are encouraged to attend. We will have indoor pitching practice session from January through March. Times and exact dates to be determined. We will also hold an indoor catching clinic, and some outdoor fielding hitting and clinics. Additional information to follow.

If you wish to be a Team Manager, Assistant Coach, Team Parent or Volunteer in any other way you MUST register online. Please note - all Team Managers & Assistant Coaches will also be required to additionally register with Carroll County - instructions can be found on our website.


Freedom Soccer Academy 2018

FSC will offer its soccer academy for players ages 3-8 starting April 8 – June 3, Sundays, 6-7PM, for 8 weeks (no session Memorial Day weekend). Field location is Liberty High School.

The academy’s mission is to teach the fundamentals of soccer to help lay foundation for success in soccer in a fun-filled, low pressure environment.
All instructors are either current coaches at the high school or collegiate level.

Registration fee is $125 for 8 sessions which includes an academy shirt. $20 discount for each additional family member.

Develop confidence, self defense, discipline, courtesy and self-control through the Korean martial art of Tae Kwon-Do. Classes are coed, 10 weeks long, and offered year-round. Classes are held at the Linton Springs Elem. Community Room, 375 Ronsdale Road, Eldersburg for the following age groups.

4th, 5th and 6th grade instrumentalists
(strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion)
Time: 4-5:30pm
Cost: $48 per 4 class session. Class must have at least 10 students to occur.
Location: Piney Ridge Elementary School Band Room

4th-6th Grade instrumentalists advance their skills by playing rock, pop and jazz music! As an extension of the awesome kids program’s beginning band and orchestra, this class features a combined band and orchestra playing a variety of songs ending with a live recital performance.

The Awesome Kids Band includes all 4th, 5th and 6th grade instrumentalists of any instrument (strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion). While performing fun and popular tunes, students learn new fingerings, notes and theory about music and their instrument. Play songs from the Beatles, Van Halen, Michael Jackson and more, on your band or orchestra instrument!


Heartlight Aerobics - Spring 2017-18

Heartlight Aerobics is an aerobic program designed especially for children. The program provides a healthy environment where children work out to the latest music including songs by Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, and One Direction.

Classes will happen if enough participants sign up. If interested please register within this online system. Once determined class is a go you will receive an email to log back in and complete registration and pay.

Cost: $50.00

Sykesville Baseball Divisions are as follows - all ages are as of July 31, 2018 except 4 year old they must be 4 by January 1, 2018 :
T-Ball: 4 years old (wait listed pending age verification)
T-Ball: 5 years old
Instructional 6 - 6 year olds
Clinic 7 - 7 year olds
Clinic - 8 year olds
Minors - 9 & 10 year olds
Majors - 11 & 12 year olds
Preps (13 & 14 year olds)
Seniors (15, 16, 17 & 18 year olds) Senior players must be in high school

Multi-player discount of $5.00 for 2nd player and each additional player $10.00

Season begins for all divisions April 14 - June 16.

For the Spring 2018 Season, Sykesville Baseball is continuing its development program for our coaches, parents, and players. This program will be focused on the areas of coach instruction, player skills development, and further improving the level of sportsmanship and competition in Sykesville Baseball.

Freedom Firebirds 2017-18

Welcome to the Freedom Firebirds registration page.

Congratulations on making a Firebird team this season.

As you register you will be required to enter a participation code. You can contact your team manager for this code if you have not already received it.

You will also be asked to select a team -- select the team your child will be playing for this season.

If you are a volunteer you need to also register as a volunteer.

You must have tried out for a Freedom Firebird Team and have been selected to play on that team in order to register.

JDCRO Orchestra Practice 2017-18

JoeyDCares Rock Orchestra, a non-profit community music group of students and adult volunteers, performs Rock, Pop, Motown, Jazz & Classical to support charitable events throughout the year. Students improve their music skills while earning service hours serving their community through music, building leadership skills, and having fun jamming with other musicians.

Who: Student musicians in grades 6-12. Also, members of the community of any age who want to join by helping or playing an instrument are welcome!

Cost: $99 per 4 month session- See Sessions below - you must register for each session separately.

Hall Rental - Freedom Optimist Building 2018

In order to rent the the Freedom Hall please email optimisthall@gmail.com and you will receive a participation code so that you can register and pay.

Fees are:
Upstairs (Capacity - 60): $50.00/hour plus $175.00

Downstairs (Capacity - 225):
$500.00 - 4 hours
$550.00 - 5 hours
$600.00 - 6 hours
$650.00 - 7 hours
$700.00 - 8 hours

With this registration I agree that I will abide by all rules, regulations and terms set forth below for the Rental of the Freedom Optimist Hall (upstairs & downstairs) for the date and times listed on my registration.
IMPORTANT: You must email (optimisthall@gmail.com) a copy of a Certificate of Insurance for General Liability in the amount of $500,000 naming the Optimist Club of Freedom District as “additionally insured” which can be secured from either a business or homeowner’s insurance provider once registration is complete. If this form is not received within 20 days of registration – this registration will be cancelled.

CANCELLATION: ½ of rental fee is Non-Refundable
BUILDING SECURITY: Upon completion of event and inspection credit card payers will be issued $100.00 refund back to your credit card from your rental fee within 30 days after your event date

Volleyball 2018 Winter Session

Registration is closed

Time: Mondays and Wednesdays
Place: South Carroll Senior & Community Center

Skills Night- Wednesday January 3rd
(You will get an email with your assigned time the week before Skills Day)

-Team practices:
Monday January 8th & January 15th
Wednesday January 10th & January 17th.
(Time slots will be emailed after skills day)


7 weeks of league play. Each team plays once a week either on Monday or Wednesdays.
(You will get an email with your assigned time the week before games begin)
Monday sessions: 1/22, 1/29, 2/5, 2/12, 2/19, 2/26 and 3/5/18.
Wednesday sessions: 1/24, 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/21, 2/28 and 3/7/18.
Please be advised that if you are paying for registration by check we must receive your check no later than 12/28/15 to guarantee your participation.
After 1/5/17 unpaid accounts will be dropped from the system.

Late fee of $10 begins 12/26/17


Refund Policy: Twenty dollars of the tuition in non refundable. Refunds on remaining balances may be requested in writing no later then 14 days prior to the beginning of each session.
